BLURB:

Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate.
For good reason.

His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal.

His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance.

Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its lush gardens. If I stick with the servants and he keeps to his sailboat and vintage Porsche, we should hardly cross paths at all. Unfortunately, at Rosethorn, I find that all roads eventually lead to Nicholas Hunt.

Sparks fly as we spar at the dinner table. Fighting words are flung in the shadows of the palatial halls.

We hang suspended in our hatred of one another, painfully oblivious to the heat and tension that build with every moment we’re left alone. We’re liable to kill one another, I think…right up until my eyes land on his lips and a new feeling grips hold of me: lust.

What’s worse?
He knows it.

They say you should keep your enemies close, but when Nicholas tightens his grip on my waist and draws me near, I’m not sure if it’s out of loathing or love.

One thing’s for sure—I intend to find out.

MY REVIEW:

It’s no secret I love R.S. Grey’s books – she’s one of my very favorite authors for a fun read! This book is reminiscent of Pride and Prejudice (so I’m told, I haven’t actually read it myself – ha!). I love how this book started out with a young girl (Maren) being swept away from her stressful and underprivileged life by a mysterious elderly benefactor. Little does Maren know, Cornelia’s grandson is about to make her life a living hell!

Usually, Grey’s books are a guaranteed four or five stars for me, but unfortunately, I just didn’t feel the connection I hoped to with Love the One You Hate. This book seemed a bit scattered and unorganized for my tastes. It was less about the enemies to lovers trope and more about Maren’s day to day, until the very end of the story. I also wasn’t a big fan of the scenes with the random character from Maren’s past in the latter half of the story either. It felt unnecessary and thrown in for moments of forced character growth.

I was bummed the majority of the love story in this book was contained to the epilogue. This made the novel feel rushed and, honestly, a bit disappointing. There were some funny moments in this story, though fewer than we’re accustomed to. I’m chalking this one up to the author finishing up the book during a stressful time in our world. We can’t win them all and I will still eagerly be picking up anything and everything R.S. Grey releases in the future.

Rating: 3 stars

I remember a character’s name from some book… But can’t figure out which one… I think it’s from Sidney Sheldon’s TELL ME YOUR DREAMS.
