Whew, this book was definitely as insane as everyone said. I joined a buddy read for Darling Rose Gold on Instagram and am greatly looking forward to discussing this book with new friends and the author in the coming days. It gave me the push I needed to read this book sooner rather than later and will no doubt inspire some fantastic conversation.

As this story started, I had a difficult time being in the minds of Patty and Rose Gold. I find it a challenge to read from the perspectives of manipulative characters because their thinking is horribly disturbing and selfish. I would find myself becoming depressed the more I read and would have to take frequent breaks to get my mood right. Isn’t it amazing how the tone of a book can set the mood for your whole day?

Finally, as the story picked up and Rose Gold developed some spunk, I was able to sink in the story for longer periods of time without feeling such a sense of hopelessness or unease. I don’t want to give too much away because the conclusion of this story is truly crazy, but suffice it to say, I am a fan of a good revenge story. This reminded me of my favorite author, Tarryn Fisher‘s work, as she’s great at crafting similar female characters and storylines. There was only one issue I had with the ending that was quite difficult to read, but I can’t share the details without spoilers. Nonetheless, I found this one to be mostly worth the hype and can’t wait to see what Stephanie Wrobel comes up with next. She’s definitely an author I will be keeping an eye out for.
