Backlist book number two of the year and it was another hit! I love books set in Britain, obviously, so I knew I had to get this adorable ROM-COM after seeing the fantastic reviews of it last year. Luckily I got it on sale at the end of the year and was eager to start it right away.

When I started The Flatshare, I was a little uncertain of it because of the awkward writing style used for Leon’s perspective. I didn’t want it to discourage me, though, because I knew many people loved this story. As I got further into the book it didn’t bother me quite so much, until I barely noticed it toward the latter half of the story. Leon actually ended up being one of my favorite male characters ever! It’s nice to read about reserved, nice guys – not the normal abrasive alphas. I loved his quiet ways and reticent nature because it was similar to my husband.

Tiffy was the joyful extroverted friend every introvert needs. She’s the person to naturally put everyone at ease and make them feel more comfortable, even in their own home. I couldn’t help but instantly love her and her quirky style. And the best part – Tiffy was tall!! It’s so rare to read about tall heroines in books, without them being described as goonish or awkward. I loved how comfortable she was in her own skin – talk about empowering!

This was a seriously cute story that had me smiling most of the time while I was reading. I absolutely adored the post-it note communication between Tiffy and Leon through much of the story. It was such a fun way to see the characters communicate, despite not meeting in person through much of the story. I love these types of storylines, and yet this felt like a completely new twist, something I’d yet to read!

Not only was this a feel-good story, but it had important substance as well. I appreciated the focus on emotional abuse and the effects it can have on a person. It’s the most overlooked type of abuse, yet it leaves a longlasting mark that isn’t always easy to see. Overall, this was a downright good book and one I was so glad I took the time to read.
