After reading (and LOVING) Things You Save in a Fire on vacation this summer, I absolutely had to get my hands on How to Walk Away. Katherine Center’s writing is so incredible that everyone on Bookstagram is eagerly reading her backlist. The #FOMO is real!
BLURB:
Margaret Jacobsen has a bright future ahead of her: a fiancé she adores, her dream job, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in one tumultuous moment.
In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Margaret must figure out how to move forward on her own terms while facing long-held family secrets, devastating heartbreak, and the idea that love might find her in the last place she would ever expect.
How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best: an utterly charming, hopeful, and romantic novel that will capture reader’s hearts with every page.
How to Walk Away was a gem of a book. It captivated me from the beginning and still hasn’t let me go. I find myself in bed at night with my books, wishing I still had more of Margaret, Ian, and Kitty’s story. I loved the dynamics at play between the characters because they truly felt like real-life relationships. They weren’t overly perfect or too storybook, but still hopeful enough to make the story a complete joy to read.
I’m a huge fan of the romance in the two Katherine Center books I’ve read. She has a way of setting up the slow-burn and periodically showing enough connection that I’m dying to read every interaction. Again, she has the magical ability of infusing real-life into her stories, making me feel as if I’m a participant in the story myself.
It’s always refreshing to be able to experience different perspectives through books and this story gave an in-depth and detailed look at a life many of us can’t imagine. Margaret’s life course was changed in the most drastic way, forcing her to completely start over. In the beginning, this made me root for one outcome, but as the story drew on, I was grateful for how it ended. It wasn’t the expected avenue, which somehow, made the story even more perfect. It seemed crazy this would be considered a “feel-good story” when I started reading because all I felt was pure despair for Margaret, but this book truly is inspirational. I keep reflecting upon things that were said in the story and applying them to my own daily life.
I’m hooked and will read anything Katherine Center writes in the future. If you haven’t picked up her books yet, you better hustle to the library!
