My Origin Story:

I started blogging with a friend over two years ago and didn’t realize at the time just how much I would enjoy reading and being a part of this book world. I feel like I have found my place here! I decided this Fall to branch out a bit with a blog of my own to be able to discuss books more frequently. Once again, everyone has been tremendously welcoming and encouraging of my new corner of the Internet.

My Advice:

1-  Stay true to yourself!

Not everyone shares your opinions or will like what you have to say. That’s ok! Differences are what make the world go ’round. Being honest about your thoughts is more important than pleasing everyone. Someone out there will value your honesty, whether they tell you so or not.

2- Read what you want!

It’s sometimes hard not to get bogged down in the books you feel like you should be reading because they are incredibly popular. Also, as a blogger, tons of requests come in and many of us want to help as many authors as possible. Once you start overextending yourself, however, reading loses its luster. In the coming year, I’m committing myself to reading what I want and I hope you will, too!

  1. Congrats!!! I love both pieces of advice. I find it easy in this community to stay true to yourself and your thoughts, since people are so loving — even if your thoughts differ.

Reading what you want can be tricky. I was HUGE at reading all the ARCs … But I’ve realized that I can say no and it’s okay to read what I want rather than always accepting ARCs.

    1. You’re absolutely right. This really is the nicest online community I can think of.

Exactly! It’s really hard to say no, especially to the request of well-known publishers. I’m definitely going to be more choosey in 2019 to catch up on that never ending TBR list.

  2. Congrats and thank you so much for nominating us! That is so sweet ❤

Read what you want is the best advice ever honestly. You can feel so pressured to just read new stuff and arcs and that can start to feel like a chore after awhile. Lots of people love seeing reviews of older books, just as much as newer ones. I know I do!

    1. You’re welcome!! Your blog is great!

Thank you so much! It’s something I really want to put into practice next year. I have so many books to catch up on and I haven’t been in favor of reviewing mostly ARCs. It got a little exhausting there for a while! Just like you said, it becomes a chore.

  3. Congratulations and these advices are important!

I love your advice so much. It’s so easy to tell when people are fake hyping up a book. I’ll never understand lying on reviews. All you have is your word and once you start lying just to get followers/arcs/etc. no one trusts you anymore. I also agree with reading popular books. Sometimes I’ll read the most popular book and ending up not liking it then I feel terrible. It shouldn’t be this way. If we disagree on something, we should respect each other’s opinion and move on.

    1. Thank you so much for reading my post and sharing your thoughts. I couldn’t agree more!! It’s so frustrating when people aren’t honest with their posts or when people argue over opinions on books. Thankfully most people are incredibly respectful here and support each other regardless of whether they agree or not.
