The Allure of Julian Lefray – Review

25558955Can I just say, I love R.S. Grey?! When life sucks with entirely too much adulting going on (hello, responsibility), Grey’s books are a welcome distraction and escape from reality. Her writing is always fun, easy to get lost in, and witty.

The Allure of Julian Lefray was no exception! I enjoyed being able to buddy read this story and laugh with a friend at the comical one-liners. We both agreed Julian was one of the dreamiest book boyfriends we’ve read of. He has practically no flaws, always thinks of the right thing to do and say, not to mention he’s Josephine’s hunky boss – ding, ding, ding, Jo hit the jackpot!

Josephine Keller is a Texas girl who leaves behind her sleepy town for the hustle and bustle of New York City to follow her dream of becoming a somebody in the fashion world. She runs a super cute blog called “What Jo Wore”, featuring advice for the regular girls wanting to look trendy without breaking the bank, and is always signed XOJO. We follow Jo’s journey and struggles through expensive NYC – hey, shoebox apartment and student loans. Despite the difficulty of the city, Jo’s determination lands her a job working as the personal assistant for the chisel-jawed, alluring Julian Lefray, brother to the fashion powerhouse, Lorena Lefray. Julian’s good looks and sometimes less than professional behavior leave Jo teetering on a dangerous line between the physical attraction she feels for Julian and the need to make a name for herself in the elusive fashion industry.

Josephine’s inner monologue was hilarious and refreshing. She’s a total knockout, but doesn’t have a clue because she is one hundred percent down-to-earth; she’s the perfect girl next door trying to make her way in the big city.

I wiped the chocolate icing from my mouth and discarded the donut box in the trash. I took extra care to get rid of all the evidence of the sweet doughy deliciousness because that’s how denial works. No proof, no calories. Ha.

To me, she’s the epitome of the cool girl who doesn’t know she’s cool. What could possibly be more endearing?
The secondary characters in this story couldn’t be better friends to the main characters. Their humor is perfectly timed and makes me wish I had friends like Lily and Dean to hang out with. I cracked up over Josephine’s and Lily’s texts and phone calls.

I love that we’ll get to read about what happens in their journey also, so be on the lookout for our upcoming shared review of The Allure of Dean Harper soon.

If you’ve yet to read R.S. Grey’s books or haven’t dug into this series yet, it is a must, especially if you’re looking for a light and funny read for the weekend.
